First, be sure to thoroughly was your car and remove any wax, I'd recommend even wiping it down with some alcohol just to be sure. If you have any wax on your paint your sandpaper will get clogged and will be useless. Second, go by sections, and use a lot of water, use a wet rag or sponge and hold it a little higher than the area that you are wet sanding, and squeze it from time to time to realese water. Third, I would recommend using something flexible like a large eraser to hold down the sand paper (I use professional squeegees that are commonly used for fiberglass resins). Using this will ensure that you apply an even pressure over the surface and will help you avoid damaging the paint and the overall job will look a lot better. Hope this helps and good luck!
